Care & Feeding of Winter Skin – Moore Rd. MediSpa
Winter weather in any climate in the U.S., is brutal on your skin, just like the sun can be during the summer. With the cold, dry temps, coupled with wind and the changes from going indoors where it’s warm and dry,is confusing to our skin. Add the stress of holidays and your skin is rebelling.
Winter is a great time to repair and reset your skin, restore moisture and aid in circulation. Facials are not only a treat, they are a means to taking care of your skin to protect and minimize aging, so you can look and feel your best.
Winter is a great time to use facial acids and peels, since they can increase photosensitivity and pigmentation with sun exposure. Get the right facial and your skin will be rejuvenated and glowing year-round. One product everyone should use year-round is a good sun block.
Exfoliate
During winter our skin cells turn over more slowly, thus causing clogged pores and less collagenand circulation production. A gently exfoliation treatment can help slough off those dead skin cells, revitalize winter skin and help even out discoloration or pigmentation. A chemical peel, microdermabrasion or dermaplaning will help brighten your complexion while shedding unwanted skin.
Hydration
As in summer, water evaporates from your skin leaving it dry and flaky during the winter wonths. Even with a moisturizer at home, a good hydrating masque provided in a medical-grade facial can reduce redness and irritation. A hydrator with hyaluronic acid will hydrate and even plump skin, minimizing fine lines and firming skin.
Microneedling & Growth Factors
Microneedling can even skin tone, treat acne, reduce the appearance of pores, dark circles, puffiness and scars, boosts collagen, lightens hyperpigmentation, reduce broken capillaries and spider veins and more. A serum with growth factors can help reduce the signs of age by stimulating collagen production, improving skin tone and texture. Natural substances made by our bodies, aka growth factors, help rejuvenate skin cells, repairing damage and increasing firmness and elasticity.

Winter Skin Care Tips at Home
Hot Shower or Soak?
Even though you might be bone-chilled cold, taking a steaming hot shower or hot soak in the tub actually repels oil and causes skin to shed its’ natural oils. Opt instead for a warm Epsom salt soak with lavender essential oil, or appropriate oil for achy muscles, or a luke-warm shower, under ten minutes.
Moisturize
Right after you lightly pat off your wet skin with a towel and then apply a good moisturizer, while your skin is still damp, your moisturizer will spread more easily and penetrate more deeply.
Turn the Heat Down
If you already have dry, itchy skin, you also want to not turn the heat up so it’s a furnace. This not only irritates your skin more, but the heat depletes the moisture in the air. You may also need a humidifier during the winter months.
Healthy Diet
Add more healthy fats to help maintain oil kevels in your skin’s moisture barrier. Too few healthy fats leave your skin more vulnerable to dry spells and breakouts because insufficient lipids mean moisture evaporates from your skin more easily. Make mega-3 rich foods a central addition to your diet by adding flax, walnuts, safflower oil, avocadoes, salmon, halibut and other cold-water fish.
And, less alcohol and caffeine and more herbal tea and water are also in order. Staying hydrated from the inside out is vital for overall health.
Sunscreen
Snow bounces 80 percent of the sun’s rays back on your face. So even during winter, you still want to apply sunscreen to prevent or minimize aging and skin cancer.
Beauty Sleep
Nothing beats a cozy winter nights slumber. When you’re sleeping, every celli n your body is renewing or repairing, including your skin. So be sure you’re getting your 8 hours per night. Your body will thank you!
